Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha, national security adviser Michael Waltz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright & Senator Mike Lee visited Greenland today.
The group toured Pituffik Space Base, the northernmost U.S. military installation, which is crucial for missile defense, space surveillance, and Arctic security. Vance met with U.S. Space Force personnel, thanking them for their service and emphasizing the importance of their mission.
Amid President Trump’s desire for Greenland to align with America, the visit served as a high-profile statement of U.S. interest.
VP VANCE TO GREENLAND: "Why does Greenland matter so much? We know that Russia and China and other nations are taking an extraordinary interest in Arctic passageways, Arctic naval routes, and in the minerals of the Arctic territories. We need to ensure America is leading in the Arctic.”
Understand what JD Vance is saying. Notice how key Greenland is (geographically and strategically) to America for all the major arctic shipping routes for the world. It is also a strategic location for air and submarine surveillance in the northern hemisphere. If the US lets Russia & China control that - America is doomed. We will lose control of imports and exports, to our enemies, and also give them a military advantage - TO INVADE US - off our shores.
VP VANCE: "Our message is very simple. Yes, the people of Greenland are going to have self-determination. We hope that they choose to partner with the United States because we're the only nation on earth that will respect their sovereignty and respect their security - because their security is very much our security."
"We can't just bury our head in the sand — or, in Greenland, bury our head in the snow — and pretend that the Chinese are not interested in this very large landmass. We know that they are."
“Our message to Denmark (which currently rules over Greenland) is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland. You have under invested in the people of Greenland and you have under invested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass."
"We want to have good relationships with everybody... but part of having good relations is showing your strength when you have to. And unfortunately, the story of Greenland over the past 20 years when it comes to security is that we've underinvested... that has to change."
PRESIDENT TRUMP: “We need Greenland for international security. You have Russian boats all over the place, you have China’s boats all over the place - warships.”
Do you think that Greenland has the military power to stop China or Russia from invading America through Canada? I don't think so.
Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and Denmark retains control over Greenland’s foreign affairs, defense, and monetary policy. There are only 56,000 people in Greenland and most are Indigenous Inuit. They are dependent on Denmark for an annual subsidy of $500 MILLION which accounts for 1/3 of their annual budget. Polls show that 60-70% of Greenlanders favor independence in principle and more autonomy.
Greenland has a legal pathway to end Danish rule through a vote. Greenland could adopt its own constitution (BTW - a draft of that has been in progress since 2021) and assume full sovereignty, ending Danish rule. After voting for independence, Greenland could, as a sovereign entity, choose to align with the U.S.—economically, militarily, or even politically (e.g., seeking statehood or a territory status like Puerto Rico). This would be a decision of its government, likely requiring another referendum or parliamentary vote to legitimize such a shift.
Most people don’t know that the NAZIs tried to invade Greenland during WW2 and the US protected them:
"While Germany controlled Europe, the Nazis set their sights on the Arctic. Greenland became an unwitting combatant and the United States stepped in, not to conquer but to protect."
There is a powerful video: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-releases-powerful-video-highlighting-us-greenland-bond-after-deadly-nazi-attack
CHARLIE KIRK: “I understand that many Danes feel attached to Greenland, and I'm sure that some Greenlanders feel attached to Denmark. But the blunt truth is that Greenland matters far, far more for the United States than it does for Denmark, and that BOTH countries, and the Greenlanders themselves, would benefit from a transfer of Greenland to United States sovereignty.
For nearly a century, Greenland security has been handled more by America than by Denmark. During World War 2, the U.S. occupied Greenland on Denmark's behalf, even before entering the war against Nazi Germany. In 1951, the Greenland Defense Agreement gave U.S. forces almost total free access to Greenland territory and let us build the Thule Air Base, a crucial piece of our Arctic defense network. This makes sense.
Greenland is a vital security interest for the United States, but it isn't for Denmark. America is bounded by two oceans to the east and west, and Greenland to the north. For Denmark, Greenland is simply a dependency 2,000 miles away. America is large enough to handle Greenland's defense easily. Denmark is not — there are more men in the Russian or Chinese militaries than there are adult men in Denmark.”
The fake news is not telling Americans these facts. What President Trump is proposing is totally possible and doable and it would be in the best interests of America, Canada and Greenland to make it happen. Please share this truth with your friends and family.
