Irishman Conor McGregor just made a brief statement in the White House press briefing room, on St. Patrick’s Day, where he laid out the dire situation in his home country, Ireland. He is very passionate and is set to meet with President Trump.
McGregor says the Irish government is not focused on the Irish people and illegal immigration is running RAMPANT. Sound familiar? He says there may be no place for Irish-Americans to visit at the current rate.
CONOR MCGREGOR: “I'm here to raise the issues that the people of Ireland face. It'll be music to the people of Ireland’s ears because never, on the main stage, have the issues the people of Ireland face been spoken. The government of Ireland has long since abandoned the voices of the people of Ireland and it's high time that America is made aware of what is going on in Ireland. What is going on in Ireland is a travesty.
Our government is the government of zero action and zero accountability. Our money is being spent on overseas issues that have nothing to do with the Irish people. The illegal immigration racket is ravaging our country. There are rural towns in Ireland that have been overrun in one swoop - where the [Irish people] have become a minority in one fell swoop.
So, the issues need to be addressed and the 40 million Irish-Americans need to hear this because, if not, there will be no place to come and visit. Ireland is at the cusp of potentially losing its Irish-ness and I’m here to raise the issue and highlight it.
It's also St Patrick's Day, so a little bit of celebration for sure and a little bit of learning and listening to Mr. President Trump - whose work ethic is inspiring. All [his work ethic] does to me is highlight the lack of work on my side.
So, that's it, that's what I'm here for. Thank you, guys. God Bless.”
Conor McGregor is an Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer, widely regarded as one of the most famous and influential figures in combat sports. Born on July 14, 1988, in Dublin, Ireland, he rose to prominence as a fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously—featherweight and lightweight.
Nicknamed "The Notorious," McGregor is known for his brash personality, sharp trash-talking skills, and exceptional striking ability inside the octagon. He debuted in the UFC in 2013 and quickly gained fame with his knockout victories, including a 13-second knockout of José Aldo in 2015 to win the featherweight title. In 2016, he defeated Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight title, cementing his status as a two-division champion.
Beyond MMA, McGregor ventured into professional boxing, most notably in a high-profile 2017 match against Floyd Mayweather Jr., which he lost via TKO but earned him significant attention and a massive payday. He’s also a businessman, launching the Proper No. Twelve whiskey brand, which became a commercial success.
Whatever your opinion of Conor McGregor, one thing is undeniable: during his White House visit on St. Patrick’s Day, his high-profile status is bringing much-needed attention to the travesty unfolding in Ireland.
Does McGregor have political aspirations? We shall see.
